The strength of strategic places often lies in not having a name or appearance. The Cow’s Garden, in the heart of the Armenian quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, is one of those. This afternoon, it is Hagop Djernazian and his dog Arj (bear in Armenian) taking their turn on guard duty, behind barbed wire and stone blocks topped with the red, blue, orange-yellow flag of Armenia. “We have been sleeping in our cars and tents for six weeks to protect the land from settlers and bulldozers,” explains this student, in a parking lot that once served as a farm…
